Over Drivin’ – Skyline Memorial is a 1997 PlayStation racer from Electronic Arts Victor, released only in Japan as a Nissan-licensed reskin of Road & Track Presents: The Need for Speed. In place of the original’s mixed car roster, it hands you eight Nissan Skyline models spanning the car’s history, from the classic Prince Skyline 2000GT up through the R32 and R33 GT-R and the R390 GT1 race car, plus a full Japanese-language option.
How to play
The game keeps every course and mode from the original Need for Speed, just renamed and reskinned: Alpine, City, Desert, Mountain, North, Ocean, and Lost Vegas make up the track list, alongside Head to Head racing (run here without any traffic or police) and a Tournament mode across three car classes. It’s also a bit more arcade than the base game, dropping the need to shift out of neutral into first gear before a race starts. Steer with the arrow keys, accelerate and brake with Z and X, and switch between the first- and third-person camera views to find your line.
Tips
- Clear Tournament Mode to unlock a bonus car beyond the eight Skylines.
- With the neutral-to-first-gear delay removed, you can floor it the instant the light turns green instead of waiting to build up speed like in the original Need for Speed.
