Out Run (Deluxe Sitdown, Earlier Version) is an early ROM revision of the Deluxe Sitdown cabinet release of Sega’s OutRun, the pioneering 1986 arcade racer designed by Yu Suzuki. The Deluxe cabinet was built with hydraulics that tilted and shook the seat in sync with the on-screen action, much like Sega’s later After Burner cabinet, and it shuffled the order of the game’s stages compared to the standard sit-down and upright machines. Under the hood it’s the same point-to-point rally: drive a Ferrari Testarossa Spider against the clock, choosing your route at each stage’s fork to reach one of five different endings.
How to Play
Reach the finish before the timer runs out, picking left or right at the end of each stage to steer toward easier or tougher scenery. For default web emulator arcade controls, use the Arrow keys to steer, accelerate, and brake. Press Z or X to shift between high and low gears. Insert a coin with Shift and press Enter to start.
Tips
- Shift into low gear before sharp corners and after a crash so you regain top speed faster.
- At each fork, the left route tends to stay scenic and forgiving while the right route ramps up the difficulty.
- Because this is the Deluxe cabinet’s stage order, don’t assume a route plays out the way it does on the standard OutRun ROM.
