Oregon Trail Deluxe is the updated 1992 release of MECC’s classic educational survival game for DOS. As the leader of a pioneer wagon party in 1848, you must guide your family from Independence, Missouri, across the treacherous trail to the Willamette Valley in Oregon while managing resources, hunting, and surviving unpredictable frontier hardships.
How to play
Balance your party’s pace and rations while responding to random events like broken wagon parts, difficult river crossings, and diseases such as dysentery. The game is controlled using standard MS-DOS keyboard inputs: use the arrow keys to navigate menus, Enter to make choices, and the spacebar to aim and fire when hunting for food.
Tips
- Buy plenty of spare wagon parts (tongues, axles, and wheels) in Independence; prices increase significantly at forts further along the trail.
- When hunting, you can only carry a limited amount of meat back to your wagon. Don’t waste bullets shooting more animals than you can carry.
- If your party members become ill, stop and rest for a few days to help them recover. Always pay for a ferry at deep river crossings to avoid losing your wagon.
