Desert Strike: Return to the Gulf is an isometric action-shooter released by Electronic Arts for the SNES in 1992. Piloting an AH-64 Apache helicopter, you navigate open-ended maps to complete strategic missions across a Middle Eastern setting. Unlike a traditional scrolling shooter, success relies on careful resource managementโbalancing the need to destroy enemy targets with the constant search for fuel, armor, and ammunition to stay airborne.
How to Play
Your objective is to complete a specific series of campaign missions, which range from rescuing hostages to dismantling enemy radar sites and airfields. Resource management is critical; you must locate and retrieve supplies scattered across the map using your winch. Check your map frequently to review mission targets, locate supplies, and monitor enemy positions.

Tips
- Watch your fuel: Running out of fuel causes an instant crash. Always identify the nearest fuel drums on your map and plan your attack routes accordingly.
- Use the right weapon: Conserve your limited Hellfire missiles for heavily armored targets like anti-aircraft emplacements. Use the chain gun for enemy infantry and light vehicles.
- Rescue for armor: Picking up MIAs and prisoners of war with your winch not only scores points but also repairs your helicopter’s armor.
