Multi Wars is a 1980 bootleg of Irem’s arcade shooter UniWar S, put out by Gayton Games under a new name but running the same game underneath. It’s a fixed-screen shoot ’em up in the early Galaxian mold: alien formations fill the top of the screen while your ship holds the bottom, and the game moves through several distinct waves rather than repeating one layout, which was unusual for an arcade shooter this early.
How to Play
Move your ship left and right along the bottom of the screen and fire up into the descending alien formations. The game runs through named enemy waves that get tougher as you go: Super Mosquitoes first, then Hovering Attackers, then Demon Flies. Some enemies drop Spy Aliens that can slip behind your ship and jab at it with an electric spear, so don’t assume the threat is only coming from above. In the browser, movement is mapped to the Arrow Keys, fire is Z, insert coin is Shift, and Enter starts the game.
Tips
- Watch your flanks, not just the sky â Spy Aliens that get past you can attack from behind, so clear them before they slip by rather than after.
- Each wave (Super Mosquitoes, Hovering Attackers, Demon Flies) is harder than the last, so expect the pace and aggression to step up as you clear each one.
