Mr Lo! is an unlicensed 1982 arcade bootleg of Universal’s Mr. Do!, one of the many unauthorised boards that circulated after the original’s success — the copyright text and Universal logo in the attract screen were hacked out and the title changed, but the game underneath is Mr. Do! unaltered. You dig tunnels through the maze-like playfield as the cherry-loving clown Mr. Do, gathering all the cherries while dodging the red creeps that chase you.
How to play
The objective on each screen is to clear it by collecting every cherry, destroying all the creeps, digging up the letters that spell EXTRA, or uncovering the hidden diamond. Mr. Do’s only weapon is a bouncing power ball: throw it to knock out a creep, but he can’t throw another until the first one returns, so timing the throw matters. You can also dig underneath the giant apples scattered around the maze and let them drop to crush any enemy standing beneath — though the apple will just as easily crush Mr. Do if he isn’t clear of it when it falls.
- Arrow keys — move / dig through the earth
- Z — throw the power ball
- Enter — start
- Shift — insert coin
Tips
- Collecting all five EXTRA letters awards a bonus life and clears the level outright, so it’s often faster than chasing every last cherry.
- A power ball in flight leaves Mr. Do defenseless — don’t throw into open ground with a creep nearby unless you have an escape tunnel already dug.
- Use apples for crowd control: dig the earth beneath one to drop it on a cluster of creeps rather than throwing the ball at each one individually.
