Mr. Driller is a fast-paced puzzle game originally developed by Namco, with this port released for the Game Boy Color in 2000. You play as Susumu Hori, tasked with drilling as deep as possible through endless towers of colorful blocks. The core challenge lies in balancing speed and strategy: you must rapidly descend by clearing blocks, avoid being crushed as the structures above you settle, and constantly collect air capsules to prevent your oxygen from running out.
How to Play
Your objective is to drill down to the target depth for each level before your air supply depletes. Blocks of the same color will merge and disappear if four or more connect. Use the arrow keys to move and aim your drill, Z or X to drill in the direction you are facing, Enter to pause, and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Watch your air: Keep a close eye on your oxygen gauge. Every block you drill consumes a tiny bit of air, and missing an air capsule can quickly lead to a game over.
- Avoid X-blocks: Brown X-blocks require five drills to break and penalize your air supply by 20% if destroyed. Try to clear the colored blocks around them to make them fall and disappear instead.
- Look for chains: Creating chain reactions by letting blocks fall into matching colors doesn’t use air and helps clear large sections of the screen safely.
