Game description:

Monaco Grand Prix (also known as Monaco Grand Prix: Racing Simulation 2) is a Formula One-style racing game released for the PlayStation in 1999 by Ubisoft. Built around a four-point physics engine, the game focuses on realistic handling and simulation across 16 international tracks modeled after real-life circuits. While it doesn’t carry the official FIA license for driver names, it authentically captures the speed, weather conditions, and demanding technical driving of open-wheel motorsport.

How to Play

Your goal is to master the demanding handling of an F1-style car and climb the ranks across multiple modes, from Arcade to full Pro simulation. Navigate the tracks and manage your braking zones to outpace the field.

  • Steering: Arrow Keys (maps to the PlayStation D-Pad)
  • Accelerate: X Key (maps to the Cross button)
  • Brake: Z Key (maps to the Square/Circle button)
  • Start/Pause: Enter Key
  • Select: Shift Key

Tips

  • Respect the weather: Rain dramatically affects your tires’ grip. Brake much earlier than you would on a dry track to avoid spinning out into the gravel.
  • Smooth steering is key: The game’s physics engine heavily penalizes erratic movements. Try to make smooth, deliberate turns rather than jerking the wheel, especially at high speeds.
  • Customize the roster: Since the game lacks the official FIA license, you can manually edit the names of the computer-controlled opponents in the menus to recreate the real 1999 racing season.
