Game description:

Mission 660 is a 1986 vertically scrolling arcade shooter developed by Woodplace and published by Taito (also released in Japan as The Alphax Z). You pilot a spaceship to defend a space colony against waves of increasingly bizarre enemies. Unlike standard sci-fi shooters of the era, the game features a surreal mix of traditional enemy ships and eccentric foes like flying cats, mice, and giant skulls across 26 distinct stages.

How to Play

Your objective is to survive the alien onslaught and defeat the boss at the end of each stage. Use the Arrow Keys to maneuver your ship, press Z or X to fire your weapons, and use Shift to insert coins and Enter to start the game.

Tips

Collect the “power stars” that appear throughout the stages; these are crucial for upgrading your ship’s firepower and increasing your chances of survival. Be mindful of enemy movement patterns, as the unusual enemy types often move erratically compared to standard fighter formations. The game loops infinitely after stage 26, so focus on high scores once you’ve mastered the main progression.
