Mega Zone is a 1983 arcade shoot-’em-up developed and published by Konami, released in Japan in March of that year before reaching North America and Europe later in 1983. This “Set 1” is one of the game’s original ROM revisions. Players pilot a heavily armed craft on an overhead-scrolling flight over a landscape of rivers, trees, and futuristic enemy installations, in the vein of Namco’s Xevious — though Mega Zone simplifies the formula with a single weapon that destroys both airborne and ground targets at once. At several points the route splits, letting the player choose a left or right fork through the stage.
How to Play
Steer the craft with the arrow keys, picking a left or right fork whenever the path splits, and press Z (or the on-screen fire button) to blast enemies — the same shot works against both air and ground targets. Up to two players can take turns on the same route.
