Game description:

Majin Tensei is an early turn-based strategy RPG spinoff of the Megami Tensei series, released exclusively in Japan for the SNES in 1994. While it adopts a grid-based tactical combat system similar to Fire Emblem, it retains the core mechanics the franchise is known for, such as negotiating with demons to recruit them, fusing them to create stronger allies, and navigating the influence of lunar cycles on demon behavior.

How to Play

As a Japanese-language release, menus will require some trial and error if you cannot read the text, but the core flow involves moving units across a grid and engaging in turn-based combat. You must manage a party of humans and recruited demons, paying attention to the lunar cycle, which affects demon strength and negotiation success. Use the Arrow keys for directional movement on the grid, Z to select commands or confirm actions, and X to cancel or back out of menus. The Enter key is used for Start, which may open the main menu or pause the game.

Tips

  • Watch the Moon: The lunar cycle directly impacts demon negotiations. Some demons are impossible to recruit during a full moon, while others might become more aggressive.
  • Fuse Constantly: Recruited demons often fall behind in stats as you progress. Regularly fuse them into higher-level allies to keep up with enemy difficulty.
