Game description:

Madou Senki – Deep Dungeon is a classic first-person dungeon crawler role-playing game developed by HummingBirdSoft and published by Square for the Famicom Disk System (NES) in 1986. Set beneath the town of Dorl, players descend into a multi-layered, 3D-perspective labyrinth to rescue Princess Etna and defeat the evil Ruu. As one of the earliest grid-based RPGs on the console, it challenged players with deep exploration, random monster encounters, and traditional turn-based combat.

How to Play

Your objective is to explore the treacherous subterranean dungeon, level up your character through combat, collect essential items, and ultimately defeat the dungeon’s master. The default NES controls in the browser map the D-pad to the arrow keys for navigating the maze and menus. Use the Z and X keys (acting as A and B) to confirm actions, select attacks, or cancel choices. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select to manage your inventory and view stats.

Tips

Mapping the dungeon yourself with graph paper is highly recommended, as the twisting corridors and featureless walls can easily lead to getting lost. Make sure to frequently return to the surface town to heal and save your game, especially before descending to deeper, more dangerous floors.
