Released for the Sega Genesis in 1992 by Gremlin Graphics Software, Lotus III: The Ultimate Challenge is a fast-paced arcade racing game that puts you behind the wheel of classic Lotus sports cars. Along with standard championship modes and split-screen multiplayer, it features the innovative Racing Environment Construction System (RECS), which lets you generate completely custom tracks by tweaking parameters like curves, hills, and weather.
How to play
Your goal is to complete each course before the timer runs out, passing checkpoint markers to extend your time. Navigate the menus and steer your car using the Arrow keys. Press X (Genesis B button) to accelerate and S (Genesis A button) to brake. If you choose manual transmission, use Z (Genesis C button) to shift gears. Press Enter (Start) to pause the race.
Tips
- The RECS track generator uses a percentage-based setup; dialing up the difficulty on curves and hills requires you to brake much earlier to avoid skidding off the road.
- Watch your fuel gauge closely during longer championship races. If you see it running low, make sure to steer into the pit lane to refuel before you run dry.
- Avoid colliding with road signs and scenery on the edges of the track, as they will instantly kill your speed and cost you precious seconds.
