Developed by Capcom and released in 1993, The Little Mermaid is an underwater action platformer for the Game Boy based on the classic Disney animated film. Players control Ariel on a quest to save the ocean from the sea witch Ursula, navigating side-scrolling aquatic levels filled with sea creatures and challenging boss encounters.
How to Play
Ariel can swim freely in all eight directions throughout the underwater stages. Her primary attack is flicking her tail to create bubbles that trap smaller enemies. Once an enemy is trapped in a bubble, Ariel can pick it up and throw it to defeat other foes, deal damage to bosses, or uncover hidden items in the sand. Play this Game Boy classic in your browser using the default controls: use the arrow keys to swim, Z and X to shoot and throw bubbles (mapping to the A and B buttons), and Enter to start.
Tips
Look out for pearls scattered throughout the levels or hidden under sand; collecting them upgrades your bubble power, allowing you to shoot larger bubbles that travel further and can trap tougher enemies. Don’t be afraid to hold onto a trapped enemy, as carrying a bubble acts as a useful shield against incoming projectiles before you throw it.
