Developed and published by Capcom in 1992 for the Game Boy, The Little Mermaid is a classic side-scrolling action-platformer based on the beloved Disney film. Instead of traditional jumping, players control Ariel as she swims freely through underwater stages, navigating tricky currents and dodging sea creatures on a quest to defeat the sea witch Ursula and save the ocean.
How to play
Ariel’s main attack involves trapping smaller fish in bubbles by swiping her tail, then picking them up and throwing them at larger enemies or using them to uncover hidden items in the sand. Use the arrow keys to move freely underwater. Press Z to shoot bubbles from your tail, and X for a burst of speed. Use Enter for Start and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Pay attention to the color of your bubbles. Fully charged bubbles can trap heavier enemies or break certain obstacles.
- Search sandy floors and alcoves. Throwing a trapped fish into the sand will often reveal hidden items like extra lives or health-restoring hearts.
- Some boss battles require you to grab projectiles they throw at you, catch them in a bubble, and launch them back to deal damage.
