Game description:

Libble Rabble is a unique puzzle-action game released for the Arcade in 1983. Designed by Namco’s Toru Iwatani, the creator of Pac-Man, the game challenges you to control two arrowsโ€”the red “Libble” and blue “Rabble”โ€”to stretch a line between them. By wrapping this line around pegs, you enclose territory to trap enemies and uncover hidden items in a frantic test of dual-joystick coordination.

How to Play

Loop your line entirely around a set of pegs to draw a closed shape. Trapping enemies (called Mushikil) inside defeats them, while enclosing empty space harvests mushrooms and reveals bonus items. You lose a life if an enemy touches either of your arrows or crosses your line.

Insert a virtual coin (typically 5 or Shift) and press Start (typically 1 or Enter) to begin. Because this arcade cabinet used two joysticks, you must control Libble and Rabble independently. For the browser emulator, we recommend mapping two distinct sets of directional keys, such as the Arrow Keys and WASD, in the control settings.

Tips

  • Start small: Moving two characters simultaneously is difficult. Practice enclosing small areas rapidly before attempting screen-wide traps.
  • Hunt for bonuses: Enclosing empty territory frequently uncovers hidden treasure chests, so claim space even when enemies are far away.
  • Protect the line: Keep the distance between your arrows manageable, as agile enemies can easily cut through a stretched-out string.
