Lemmings is a classic 1991 puzzle game developed by DMA Design Limited for DOS. Instead of directly controlling a single character, you must guide a marching, mindless horde of green-haired rodents through hazardous obstacle courses, assigning specific skills to individuals to carve a safe path to the exit.
How to play
The objective is to safely route a required percentage of the lemmings to the exit door before time runs out. Since lemmings walk forward continuously and blindly fall off ledges or walk into traps, you must select individual lemmings with the mouse and assign them one of eight skills from the bottom toolbar: Climber, Floater, Bomber, Blocker, Builder, Basher, Miner, or Digger. The game is entirely mouse-controlled. You can press the spacebar to pause the action and survey the level to plan your route.
Tips
- Use Blockers early in a level to corral the horde into a safe area while a single “worker” lemming builds or digs the path forward.
- A Builder will lay exactly 12 bricks and shrug right before he finishes. Re-assign the Builder skill to him as he shrugs to seamlessly continue a long bridge.
- To clear a Blocker when the path is ready, you can sacrifice him by making him a Bomber, or safely free him by having another lemming dig the ground out from under him.
