Game description:

Released in 1992, Kyoro Chan Land is a unique puzzle-platformer for the Famicom starring the mascot bird from Morinaga's Chocoball snacks. It is a Japanese localization of the game known in the West as Castelian (or Nebulus), with the main character replaced by Kyoro-chan and the collectible items changed to candy. The game is notable for its impressive pseudo-3D visual style, where the character remains centered while the cylindrical tower seamlessly rotates around them.

How to Play

Your goal is to carefully ascend eight different rotating towers by navigating platforms and avoiding alien enemies. You must reach the top and enter the final door before the timer runs out. If you are hit by an enemy, you may get knocked down to a lower level of the tower.

  • Arrow Keys: Move left and right around the tower, or enter doors (Up/Down)
  • Z / X: Jump and shoot (A/B buttons)
  • Enter: Start or Pause
  • Shift: Select

Tips

  • Watch the rotation: Enemies and platforms on the other side of the cylinder can rotate into your path unexpectedly. Pay close attention to what is wrapping around the edges.
  • Use the passwords: Unlike the Western NES release, Kyoro Chan Land features a password system. Note them down to avoid starting over from the first tower.
  • Pacing is key: Falling off a ledge usually isn't instant death, but it drops you down to lower platforms and costs you valuable time.
