Game description:

The Karate Kid is an action beat ’em up game released in 1987 for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Published by LJN and developed by Atlus, the adventure loosely follows the events of the movie The Karate Kid Part II. You step into the role of Daniel LaRusso, fighting your way through four distinct stages set in locations from the films, such as the All Valley Karate Tournament and the streets of Okinawa.

How to Play

Your objective is to reach the end of each side-scrolling level by defeating enemies and surviving platforming challenges. In the browser, use the Arrow Keys to move, Z to jump (NES A button), and X to punch or kick (NES B button). Press Enter to Start and Shift for Select. Pressing attack while jumping performs a jump kick, which is effective against flying enemies.

Tips

  • Special attacks like the Crane Kick and Drum Punch are powerful but limited. Save them for tougher enemies and boss fights.
  • Don’t skip the bonus stages! The ice-breaking and fly-catching mini-games are crucial for earning extra lives and replenishing your special moves.
  • When facing bosses, especially Chozen in the final stage, focus on dodging their attacks and countering when they are vulnerable instead of rushing in.
