Cobra Command is a side-scrolling action shooter released for the NES by Data East in 1988. You pilot a heavily armed helicopter on a mission to infiltrate enemy territory, destroy hostile forces, and rescue captives. Unlike standard auto-scrollers, you have the freedom to fly in both directions, allowing you to carefully explore each stage, locate enemy bases, and upgrade your aircraft’s capabilities.
How to play
Use the Arrow keys to maneuver your helicopter. Press X (A button) to fire your machine guns and Z (B button) to launch missiles or bombs. Press Enter (Start) to pause the game. You must carefully control your altitude to avoid crashing into the terrain while dodging incoming anti-aircraft fire.
Tips
- Find the bases: Look for enemy bases you can enter. Exploring these areas is essential for rescuing hostages and upgrading your helicopter’s weapons and armor.
- Take it slow: Because the screen does not force you forward, advance cautiously. This allows you to deal with enemy turrets and choppers one by one rather than flying into a crossfire.
