Karate Champ is a pioneering one-on-one fighting game released in 1986 for the Arcade. As one of the earliest titles in the martial arts genre, it laid the groundwork for modern competitive fighting games. Players take on the role of a martial artist, battling opponents in a series of matches to prove their mastery of karate.
How to Play
The objective is to defeat your opponent by scoring points through successful strikes and evasive maneuvers. First to score two points wins the round. Press Shift (or 5) to insert a coin, then press Enter (or 1) to start. Use the Arrow Keys to move and the action buttons (Z, X, C) to perform various attacks.
Tips
- Timing and distance are critical. Focus on dodging your opponent's attacks, then quickly counter-attack when they leave themselves open.
- Learn the reach of your different strikes. Using a long-range kick can keep aggressive opponents at bay.
