Karate Blazers is a fast-paced arcade beat ’em up released by Video System in 1991. Up to four players can hit the streets simultaneously to take on waves of thugs, choosing from a roster of four distinct martial artists. With its intense combat, screen-clearing special attacks, and colorful, hard-hitting action, it stands as a classic slice of early ’90s brawler history.
How to Play
Fight your way through multiple scrolling stages, defeating the boss at the end of each area to progress. You can move freely around the screen, utilizing strikes and jump attacks to clear out the enemy gangs.
Controls: Use the Arrow Keys to move. Press Z to attack and X to jump. Press both together (Z + X) to unleash a powerful crowd-clearing special move at the cost of a little health. Press Shift to insert a coin, and Enter to start the game.
Tips
- Don’t get surrounded: Keep enemies on one side of you. If you get boxed in, use your jump attacks to escape and reposition.
- Use specials wisely: Since your special move (Z + X) drains your own health, save it for desperate situations when you are grabbed or overwhelmed.
- Break everything: Smash crates, barrels, and other background objects to find food items that will replenish your health bar.
