Jungle Hunt is an arcade action game by Taito, originally released to arcades in 1982 and ported to the Atari 2600 in 1983. Players guide a jungle explorer through four repeating stages — swinging on vines, swimming a crocodile-filled river, dodging boulders on a hillside, and leaping over spear-throwing natives to rescue a captive — with each loop faster and harder than the last.
How to play
Each round cycles through four stages in order:
- Vines — Swing from vine to vine across the jungle canopy. Press the trigger at the right moment to grab the next vine; mistimed jumps drop you.
- River — Swim left through crocodile-infested water. Jump over crocs or duck under them (↓) when their mouths are open.
- Boulders — Run uphill while boulders and logs roll down. Jump to clear them; some arrive in close pairs.
- Rescue — Sprint left, jumping the spears thrown by native guards, to reach the captive before time runs out.
Player 1 controls: Arrow keys to move · Spacebar to jump or grab · Del for turbo · F12 to reset · F11 to select game mode
Tips
- In the river, watch the crocodile’s jaw: if the mouth is closing as you approach, duck under (↓); if it is opening, wait or jump over.
- On the vine stage, shorter vines swing faster — jump early from them before you run out of arc.
- The boulder stage often sends two rocks close together; jump high over the first so you clear the second without landing between them.
