Joyful Road is a quirky 1983 arcade action-driving game developed by SNK (released in North America as Munch Mobile). You take control of a sentient car equipped with long, extendable arms. As you drive down a vertically scrolling highway, your goal is to safely navigate traffic and obstacles while simultaneously using your mechanical hands to reach out and grab roadside items.
How to Play
The objective is to drive safely to the garage at the end of each stage while collecting food and fuel for points and survival. In the browser emulator, use the Arrow Keys to steer your car. Press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start. Use the action keys (Z / X / C) to extend your car’s arms left or right to grab items like fruit, fish, money bags, and essential gas containers.
Tips
- Watch your fuel: Driving and extending your arms both consume gas. Prioritize grabbing gas containers to keep your car running.
- Dispose of your trash: After eating fruit, your car will hold onto the core. Throwing these scraps into roadside trash cans earns you bonus points.
- Mind the hazards: Hitting trees, bushes, or other cars will temporarily disable your arms or cost you a life. Don’t let grabbing an item distract you from the road ahead.
