Game description:

John Romero’s Daikatana is a first-person shooter released for the Nintendo 64 in 2000 by Kemco. Adapting Ion Storm’s highly publicized PC title, this console version takes you on a time-traveling journey across four distinct erasโ€”ranging from cyberpunk Japan to ancient Greece. As Hiro Miyamoto, you must wield the mythical Daikatana sword to stop an evil mastermind from rewriting history. Notably, the N64 port streamlines the solo experience by removing the PC version’s AI sidekicks, allowing you to focus entirely on the fast-paced shooting and exploration, while also offering an exclusive 4-player deathmatch mode.

How to Play

Your goal is to survive four different time periods, utilizing a mix of melee combat with the Daikatana and era-specific ranged weapons to defeat enemies and solve environmental puzzles. In this browser emulator, standard Nintendo 64 controls apply. Use the Arrow Keys to move and aim. Your primary actions, such as shooting and jumping, are mapped to the Z, X, A, and S keys (emulating the N64’s A, B, Z-trigger, and C-buttons). Press Enter to pause or access the menu.

Tips

  • Level Up the Sword: The Daikatana gains experience and levels up as you use it. Try to rely on the sword for weaker enemies to boost its power for tougher encounters.
  • Mind the Save Crystals: The N64 version relies on limited save crystals to record your progress. Be strategic about when you use them, saving them for right before difficult sections or boss battles.
