Joe & Mac Returns is a 1994 single-screen action platformer developed by Data East for the Arcade. Shifting away from the side-scrolling adventures of the original titles, this entry adopts a fast-paced gameplay style similar to Bubble Bobble and Tumblepop. Playing as the familiar caveman duo, you must clear compact, single-screen stages of prehistoric enemies to rescue kidnapped women and advance through the wild landscape.

How to Play

Your objective is to defeat every enemy on the screen to progress to the next stage. You stun enemies by hitting them with your club, then grab and throw them into other enemies to cause chain reactions and spawn bonus food items. To play in the browser, press Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start. Use the Arrow Keys to move, press Z to swing your club or grab/throw a stunned enemy, and press X to jump.

Tips

• Chain Throws: Throwing an enemy into a large group will defeat them all at once and spawn higher-value food items for bonus points.
• Boss Battles: Grab and throw the smaller minions spawned by bosses to deal significant damage from a safe distance.
