Hard Head 2 is a bizarre side-scrolling platformer developed by SunA Electronics and released for the arcade in 1991. Moving away from the mechanics of the original game, this sequel adopts an action-platforming style reminiscent of Ghouls ‘n Ghosts. You control the protagonist—joined by his twin brother Dr. Bulgehead in two-player co-op—on a surreal quest to rescue his kidnapped girlfriend from a dancing devil.

How to Play

Navigate through levels, defeating strange enemies to reach the end of each stage. You begin armed with a kanabō (a Japanese club) but can pick up alternative weapons like a morning star, as well as wings that allow you to glide. Your character can sustain two hits: the first hit destroys your overalls, leaving you running around in just your shoes, and the second hit costs a life. Use the arrow keys to move, Z to attack, X to jump, Shift to insert a coin, and Enter to start.

Tips

• Your overalls act as armor. Once you lose them, play defensively until you find a replacement, as the next hit is fatal.
• Grab the wings whenever possible; gliding lets you safely bypass difficult platforming stretches and ground-level hazards.
• Take advantage of the two-player co-op. Coordinating attacks with a friend makes crowd control significantly easier in later levels.
