Game description:

Guevara Japan (released internationally as Guerrilla War) is a top-down run-and-gun arcade shooter developed by SNK in 1987. Following the template of their hit Ikari Warriors, players take on the roles of Che Guevara and Fidel Castro as they fight their way through enemy forces to overthrow a dictatorship. Known for its intense action, vehicle combat, and the original arcade cabinet's rotary joysticks that allowed players to aim independently of their movement, it remains a classic piece of run-and-gun history.

How to Play

Progress through heavily defended territory, rescuing hostages and defeating bosses. You can commandeer tanks for increased firepower and armor. In your browser, use the Arrow Keys to move, Z to shoot your primary weapon, and X to throw grenades. Use Shift to insert a coin and Enter to start the game.

Tips

  • Rescuing hostages (soldiers in yellow) grants bonus points, but accidentally shooting them will subtract from your score.
  • When driving a tank, be careful of enemy bazooka troops—your vehicle can absorb a few hits, but will explode when heavily damaged. Bail out before it's too late!
  • Spread your fire and make use of grenades to clear out enemies hiding behind barricades.
