Released by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2000, Grind Session is a skateboarding game developed by Shaba Games for the PlayStation. Hitting the scene during the extreme sports boom, it offers a fast-paced arcade experience focused on stringing together massive trick combos and exploring real-world inspired skate parks. Players can choose from a roster of actual professional skaters and tackle various objectives, finding hidden areas and unlocking new gear along the way.
How to Play
The main objective is to rack up high scores by performing tricks and completing specific level goals within a time limit. Standard PlayStation controls apply: use the D-pad to steer your skater, hold and release the cross button to ollie, and use the square, circle, and triangle buttons in combination with directions to execute flip tricks, grabs, and grinds. When playing in the browser emulator, these are mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys and action buttons (typically Z, X, A, and S). Link tricks together with manuals across halfpipes and rails to multiply your score.
Tips
- Master the Manual: Extending combos is the key to high scores. Always land in a manual (Up, Down or Down, Up) to link flip tricks and grinds together into a single continuous chain.
- Find the Keys: Each level has hidden keys that are crucial for progressing and unlocking new stages, so take time to explore beyond the obvious skate lines.
- Use Signature Tricks: Every pro skater has unique signature tricks that score significantly higher than standard moves. Learn your chosen character’s inputs to maximize your points on big air.
