Game description:

Green Beret, also known as Rush’n Attack, is a classic 1985 arcade action game developed by Konami. Players take on the role of a lone special forces soldier infiltrating a highly guarded enemy base to rescue POWs. Known for its challenging gameplay and focus on close-quarters combat, the game arms you primarily with a trusty combat knife, though you can temporarily acquire specialized weapons like a flamethrower or rocket launcher from defeated enemy officers.

How to Play

The objective is to survive four scrolling stagesโ€”a Missile Base, Harbor, Bridge, and Prison Campโ€”eliminating enemies and reaching the POWs at the end. Arcade controls are typically mapped to your keyboard: use the arrow keys to move, climb ladders, and duck. Press the Z key to use your knife or acquired special weapon, and the X key to jump.

Tips

  • Prioritize taking out the orange-clad enemy commanders; they drop valuable secondary weapons like the flamethrower or bazooka that make progressing through crowded areas much easier.
  • Master the jump attack: attacking with your knife while in mid-air is crucial for dispatching enemies safely and avoiding low-level hazards.
  • Memorize the attack patterns of the different enemy types, especially the martial artists and paratroopers, as the game requires quick reflexes and precision to survive its intense difficulty.
