Gran Turismo 2 (Arcade Mode) is the dedicated quick-racing half of Polyphony Digital’s monumental 1999 driving simulator for the PlayStation. Because the full game was so massive, it was split across two CDs; this Arcade Mode disc skips the career progression and license tests of Simulation Mode. Instead, it offers immediate access to a wide selection of global manufacturers, two-player split-screen racing, and the series’ first inclusion of off-road rally tracks.
How to Play
The goal is to set the fastest lap times and win single races across road and dirt courses. Using the standard PlayStation controller layout mapped to your keyboard:
- Steering: Arrow Keys
- Accelerate: X (mapped to PlayStation Cross)
- Brake / Reverse: Z (mapped to PlayStation Square)
- Start: Enter
Tips
- Master the Rally Tracks: Dirt racing in GT2 requires a different driving style than tarmac. Tap the brakes early entering corners to shift the car’s weight and initiate a slide, then balance the throttle to drift through the turn.
- Manual vs. Automatic: Choosing manual transmission lets you hold gears longer through corners, which is especially useful for maintaining power on uphill sections or tight chicanes.
