Game description:

Gokujou Parodius (1994), developed by Konami for the SNES, is a delightfully bizarre and comedic side-scrolling shoot ’em up that parodies the classic Gradius series. Players can choose from a colorful cast of characters, including Vic Viper, TwinBee, Pentarou the penguin, and even Kid Dracula. The game retains the deep power-up gauge system of Gradius but replaces the serious sci-fi setting with giant showgirls, flying pigs, and vibrant, absurd landscapes.

How to Play

Your objective is to navigate through the eccentric stages, defeating waves of bizarre enemies and massive bosses while avoiding their projectiles. Collect capsules left by defeated enemies to advance your power-up meter, and activate the highlighted ability to enhance your ship’s speed, weapons, or shields. The default SNES controls in the browser are the Arrow Keys to move, X to shoot, and Z to activate your selected power-up. Press Enter to start.

Tips

  • Manage your speed: Don’t take too many “Speed Up” power-ups, or your character will become uncontrollably fast and prone to crashing into obstacles.
  • Know your character: Each character has a completely different set of weapons on their power-up gauge. Experiment with different fighters like TwinBee or Kid Dracula to find a playstyle that suits you.
  • Use the bell power-ups: Shoot the floating bells to change their color before collecting them. Different colors grant powerful temporary effects, such as a giant laser or a smart bomb that clears the screen.
