Sprint Master is a top-down racing game for the Atari 2600, developed and published by Atari in 1988. Drawing on the Sprint arcade lineage, it puts one or two drivers on overhead circuit tracks where smooth cornering and clean lines matter more than raw speed. It was among the last original titles released for the platform.
How to play
Steer your car around each short circuit with the joystick (arrow keys in the browser). Two players can race simultaneously on the same keyboard, with Player 2 on the TGFH cluster.
| Player 1 | Player 2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Steer | ↑ ↓ ← → | T G F H |
| Trigger | Spacebar | A |
| Turbo | Del | . (period) |
| Reset / Select | F12 / F11 | F12 / F11 |
| Pause | Alt+P | |
Tips
- Lift early into corners — fighting the car mid-turn costs more time than a smooth entry. The tracks are short, so a single missed apex compounds across the lap.
- Learn the layout before pushing hard. A couple of cautious laps pays back quickly once every bend is memorised.
- Two-player is where Sprint Master holds up best — side-by-side racing on the same keyboard is the best reason to return to it.
