Game description:

Gauntlet IV is a top-down dungeon crawler developed by M2 and published by Atari Games under the Tengen label for the Sega Genesis in 1993. Combining a faithful port of the original 1985 arcade classic with multiplayer battle arenas and an expansive RPG Quest Mode, players choose from four classic hero classesโ€”Warrior, Valkyrie, Elf, and Wizardโ€”to navigate maze-like levels filled with relentless monster spawners.

How to Play

Guide your hero through mazes, collecting keys, treasures, and potions while destroying monster generators before your health drains down. In Quest Mode, you can earn gold and experience to buy upgraded gear, rings, and restorative items between dungeon floors.

Default keyboard controls for browser play map to the Genesis gamepad as follows:

  • D-Pad (Movement): Arrow Keys (Up, Down, Left, Right)
  • A Button (Shot / Magic): S key
  • B Button (Fight / Action): X key
  • C Button (Use Item / Special): Z key
  • Start: Enter key
  • Mode: Shift key

Gameplay Tips

  • Target spawners immediately: Monster generators continuously pump out enemies while draining your finite health pool. Prioritize destroying spawners as soon as they appear on screen.
  • Match classes to your playstyle: The Valkyrie offers high armor for forgiving solo runs, while the Elf’s superior movement speed lets you hit spawners and dodge projectile traps before taking damage.
  • Invest in gear in Quest Mode: Visit shops between tower floors to buy Speed Boots and defensive rings early, as health management becomes much tighter in later elemental towers.
