Gaplus is a fixed shooter released by Namco for the arcade in 1984. As the direct sequel to Galaga (often known as Galaga 3), it brings a significantly faster pace and introduces the ability for the player’s ship to move freely in the bottom half of the screen, rather than just side to side. The game is best known for the Blaster Head power-up, which flips the script on the enemy’s tractor beam by letting you capture alien ships to build a massive, multi-shot firing formation.
How to Play
Your objective is to destroy the alien swarm across increasingly difficult waves. Use the arrow keys to fly your ship vertically and horizontally within the lower zone, and press Z or X to fire. To play this arcade version in the browser, press Shift to insert a coin, followed by Enter to begin.
Tips
- Look out for the Queen aliens carrying special Blaster Head parts. Collecting these changes your ship’s firing pattern or grants the crucial tractor beam to capture up to six enemies for extra firepower.
- Use your newfound vertical movement to aggressively close the distance on diving enemies, taking them out before their attack formations can spread out across the screen.
