Gang Wars Bootleg is an unlicensed bootleg release of Gang Wars, the 1989 arcade beat ’em up developed by Alpha Denshi and published by SNK. The story sends two martial artists, Mike and Jackie, fighting through the streets of New York — from Chinatown to Manhattan — to take down a gang led by the villain Jaguar and rescue a kidnapped woman named Cynthia. Bootleg boards like this one run the same code and graphics as the original release under different cabinet branding, so the game underneath is the genuine 1989 brawler.
How to Play
Fight your way through waves of gang members on each stage, picking up weapons dropped by enemies or found lying around — pipes, knives, and firearms — to clear a path forward. Standard Arcade controls apply: use the Arrow Keys to move, Z to Punch, X to Kick, and C to Jump. Press Enter to Start or insert a coin. Between stages you can spend points earned from the level to boost your character’s Power, Speed, and Guard stats.
Tips
- Grab weapons whenever you see them: a knife or pipe clears crowds far faster than bare fists, and firearms make short work of tougher enemies.
- Balance your stat upgrades: pouring every point into Power leaves you fragile against the later stages — Guard is what keeps you alive long enough to use it.
- Play with a second player if you can: Gang Wars is built as a two-player brawler, and splitting enemy attention between Mike and Jackie makes the later crowds much more manageable.
