G-LOC: Air Battle is a first-person aerial combat shooter released by Sega for the Master System in 1991. Acting as a spiritual successor to the After Burner series, it drops you into the cockpit of a fighter jet on a set flight path where you must complete specific mission objectives, such as shooting down a quota of enemy planes, tanks, or warships before time runs out. Unlike traditional linear shooters, you choose your missions from a menu, and can spend points earned between stages to purchase extra time, health, and missiles.
How to Play
Use the arrow keys to maneuver your jet within your flight corridor and dodge incoming fire. Press Z to fire your Vulcan cannon at targets in your sights, and X to launch homing missiles once you achieve an auto-lock-on. You have a limited supply of missiles and fuel, so pick your targets carefully.
Tips
- Upgrade wisely: You can spend the points you earn between missions. Prioritize missiles and health to survive the later stages.
- Rely on lock-ons: Your Vulcan cannon is useful for ground targets, but homing missiles are essential for fast-moving aircraft. Wait for the lock-on reticle to appear before firing.
- Watch the damage meter: Unlike many arcade shooters, you can take a few bullet hits before going down. However, colliding with enemies or getting hit by a missile is usually fatal, so prioritize dodging over securing a difficult kill.
