Game description:

Fujiyama Buster (also known as Shogun Warriors) is a 2D versus fighting game developed by Atop and published by Kaneko for the arcade in 1992. Released during the early 90s fighting game boom, it sets itself apart with an eccentric roster of characters drawn heavily from Japanese folklore, allowing players to clash as everything from samurai and ninja to mythical oni and kappa.

How to play

The game operates on a standard arcade joystick and button layout. Players navigate the 2D arena and execute strikes using a combination of punches and kicks to deplete their opponent’s health bar. A distinguishing feature of Fujiyama Buster is its dedicated grabbing system, which requires precise joystick and button inputs to initiate or escape throws during close-quarters combat.

Tips

  • Master the grabbing mechanics: Unlike other fighters of the era where throws are automatic upon close proximity, learning the specific inputs to break free from grabs is essential to surviving against aggressive opponents.
  • Exploit weapon reach: Characters armed with weapons, such as the samurai, have distinct range advantages over unarmed fighters like the kappa, making spacing a critical component of every match.
