Frogger, The Official is Starpath’s 1984 arcade port for the Atari 2600, bringing Konami’s classic amphibious action home via the Supercharger cassette system. Players guide a frog step-by-step across a treacherous multi-lane highway packed with speeding traffic, then navigate a dangerous river of floating logs and diving turtles to reach the safety of lily pads at the top of the screen.
How to Play
The goal is to safely steer your frog into each of the five home slots at the top of the stage before the countdown timer runs out. You must first dodge cars, trucks, and bulldozers along the busy highway, then cross the river by hopping on floating logs, turtles, and alligator backs without falling into the water.
- Hop / Steering: Press the Arrow Keys (Up, Down, Left, Right) to leap one space in any direction.
- Player 2 Controls: Use T, G, F, and H for alternate two-player movement.
- Console Switches: Press F11 for Game Select and F12 for Game Reset.
Tips
- Mind the Diving Turtles: Groups of dark turtles periodically submerge. Make sure they stay afloat before hopping onto them, or your frog will drown.
- Account for River Drift: Logs and turtles carry your frog horizontally across the screen. Plan your jumps early so drift does not carry you off the left or right screen boundary.
- Rescue Lady Frogs: Catch pink lady frogs resting on logs or swallow flies that appear inside home slots to earn valuable bonus points.
