Game description:

Originally released by Square for the Famicom and Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, Final Fantasy is the seminal role-playing game that launched a world-famous franchise. Players command four Light Warriors traveling across a vast fantasy world to restore the power of four elemental crystals and break a dark temporal loop threatening the realm.

How to Play

Form your starting party of four heroes from six available character classes: Fighter, Black Belt, Thief, Red Mage, White Mage, and Black Mage. Navigate overworld maps, towns, and dangerous dungeons while engaging in turn-based battles to earn gold and experience, purchase upgraded spells and equipment, and defeat bosses guarding the elemental crystals.

Controls

  • Arrow Keys: Move party on overworld / navigate battle and shop menus
  • Z Key (NES A Button): Confirm menu choice / Talk / Inspect / Execute battle action
  • X Key (NES B Button): Cancel selection / Return to previous menu
  • Enter (Start): Open status menu / Pause game
  • Shift (Select): Rearrange party order / Pass option

Tips & Strategy

  • Build a Balanced Party: Including a Fighter for physical damage and heavy armor alongside a White Mage for healing herbs and protective spells ensures survival against tough early dungeons like the Marsh Cave.
  • Stock Up on Consumable Items: Always buy plenty of Potions, Antidotes, and Sleeping Bags or Tents before venturing out into distant wilderness or multi-floor caves.
  • Upgrade Classes at Citadel of Trials: Completing Bahamut’s trial and presenting the Rat Tail upgrades your party into advanced classes (such as Knight and Ninja), unlocking higher-level magic and stronger equipment.
