Final Blow Japan is an arcade boxing game originally developed by Taito and ported to the Sega Genesis in 1990. Known for its large, detailed fighter sprites and side-on perspective, players select from a roster of heavyweight contenders and fight their way to the championship. The game was later famously localized in Western markets as James “Buster” Douglas Knockout Boxing following his historic victory over Mike Tyson.
How to Play
The objective is to deplete your opponent’s stamina meter and score a knockout before the timer runs out. When playing in your browser, use the Arrow Keys to move forward, step back, and duck. Press Z, X, and C (mapped to the Genesis A, B, and C buttons) to throw different combinations of jabs and heavy punches. Press Enter to Start.
Tips
- Watch their stamina: Opponents will block more often when their stamina is low, so be prepared to mix up high and low punches.
- Step and counter: Button-mashing is quickly punished. Instead, use the D-pad to step back from an incoming attack, then immediately step in with a heavy punch while they recover.
