Fighters Destiny is a distinctive 3D fighting game developed by Genki and released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998. Unlike traditional fighters of the era, it abandons the standard health bar in favour of a unique point-based scoring system, where players must strategically execute knockdowns, ring-outs, and special moves to secure victory. Its technical depth, roster of eclectic charactersโincluding the unlockable fighting cow, Ushiโand the innovative Master Challenge mode make it one of the most mechanically interesting martial arts titles on the console.
How to play
The objective is to score a set number of points (typically seven) before your opponent. Points are awarded based on the type of maneuver used to defeat the opponent in a given exchange. A ring-out or basic throw is worth one point, a knockdown is worth two, a special throw is worth three, and a “special” move is worth four. A match is not won in a single knockout, but through a series of successful tactical exchanges.
In the browser emulator, use the mapped arrow keys (acting as the N64 analog stick) to move your character. Use Z and X (mapped to the A and B buttons) for punching and kicking. Enter acts as the Start button to pause or select options. You can block incoming attacks or initiate throws using the mapped shoulder buttons, and dodge using the mapped C-buttons.
Tips
Focus on scoring high-value points rather than just chipping away with basic attacks. Setting up a three-point special throw or a four-point special move can turn the tide of a match much faster than trading one-point knockdowns.
Play through the Master Challenge mode as early as possible. Defeating opponents in this mode allows you to permanently learn new skills and expand your character’s move set, which is crucial for gaining an advantage against tougher challenges.
