Game description:

Field Combat is a top-down vertical scrolling shooter released for the NES in 1985 by Jaleco. You pilot a helicopter over enemy-held terrain, fighting through waves of infantry, armoured vehicles, and aircraft as the ground scrolls beneath you.

How to Play

Use the arrow keys to move your helicopter in any direction. Press X to fire (NES A button) and Z for your secondary weapon (NES B button). Press Enter to start and Shift for Select.

Enemies arrive in set formations — the key is to read where the next group will appear and move into position before it arrives, not after.

Tips

  • Hold the centre of the screen between waves: you have room to dodge in any direction when the next formation comes in.
  • Enemy patterns repeat on each loop, so a section that trips you up once becomes manageable once you know the formation shape.
