Game description:

Famicom Grand Prix: F1 Race is a challenging top-down racing game developed by Nintendo and released in 1987 for the Famicom Disk System. Rather than a simple arcade racer, it requires careful vehicle management and precise shifting. You compete across various circuits, earning prize money to purchase faster vehicles while balancing your car’s fuel, tire wear, and damage on the track.

How to Play

Unlike standard racing games, the face buttons control your transmission gears rather than just acceleration and braking. You must shift correctly to reach top speed and avoid stalling.

  • Steer Left/Right: Left and Right Arrow Keys
  • Low Gear (Accelerate): Z Key (A Button)
  • High Gear: X Key (B Button)
  • Brake: Z + X Keys simultaneously (A + B Buttons)
  • Turbo: Up Arrow Key (when at top speed, consumes extra fuel)

Tips

  • Tap to Steer: The steering is very sensitive. Instead of holding down a direction, quickly tap the arrows to make precise turns without sliding out of control.
  • Shift Up Properly: Always accelerate using Low Gear (Z) first. Once you reach maximum speed in low gear, smoothly transition to High Gear (X). Starting directly in High Gear will cause your car to crawl slowly.
  • Watch Your Gauges: Keep an eye on your Gas, Tire, and Body indicators. If they get too low, your handling will degrade. Be sure to pull into the pit lane before the finish line to refuel and repair when necessary.
