Developed by FromSoftware and released in 1998, this first-person psychological horror adventure for the PlayStation places you in the shoes of Richard Osmond as he explores a haunted luxury liner. Unlike traditional survival horror games, your goal isn’t to fight monsters, but to solve puzzles and uncover the tragic histories of the ship’s spectral passengers to help them move on.
How to Play
Your main objective is to explore the Orpheus, find items, and interact with ghosts to peacefully resolve their lingering regrets. Hostile spirits cannot be fought; instead, you must find light switches to illuminate rooms and banish them. Default PlayStation controls in the browser map the D-pad to the arrow keys, Cross (action/confirm) to X, Circle to Z, Square to S, Triangle to A, with Enter for Start and Shift for Select. The shoulder buttons (mapped to Q, W, E, and R) allow you to look up and down.
Tips
- Always prioritize turning on the lights when entering a new, dark room to protect yourself from hostile spirits.
- Listen carefully for the audio cues; the heartbeat sound gets faster and louder as evil spirits approach.
- Check every drawer and cabinet, as essential puzzle items and the rings needed to free the ghosts are often hidden away.
