Game description:

Released in 1994 by Sony Imagesoft, this Sega Genesis stock car racing simulation aims for authenticity over pure arcade action. Backed by the ESPN license, it features broadcast-style presentationโ€”complete with commentary from Dr. Jerry Punchโ€”and a demanding focus on drafting, pit strategy, and precise car setup. Players must tune their vehicle’s gear ratios, tire stagger, and aerodynamics to compete across a series of challenging oval tracks.

How to play

The objective is to manage your car’s tire wear and track position through grueling pack races to cross the finish line first. In the browser, the Sega Genesis D-pad is mapped to the arrow keys for steering. The A, B, and C buttons (typically mapped to Z, X, and C on your keyboard) handle acceleration, braking, and accessing the pit strategy menu. Press Enter (Start) to pause.

Tips

  • Master the draft: Stock car racing relies heavily on slipstreaming. Tuck in closely behind the car ahead to gain a speed boost before pulling out to pass on the straights.
  • Mind your tires: Pushing too hard through the corners will wear out your tires quickly, forcing more frequent and costly pit stops. Find a smooth racing line to conserve your rubber.
  • Tune for the track: Don’t ignore the garage menu. Adjusting your gear ratios and downforce for each specific oval is crucial for keeping up with the leader pack.
