Espgaluda is a vertical-scrolling bullet hell shoot ’em up developed by CAVE and released for arcades. Known for its intricate yet approachable scoring mechanics, the game follows protagonists Ageha and Tateha as they battle through five stages of dense enemy fire. Its defining feature is the “Kakusei” (Awakening) system, which allows players to temporarily slow down enemy bullets and convert them into gold ingots for massive point bonuses, adding a layer of strategic resource management to the traditional danmaku gameplay.
How to Play
Your objective is to survive through five stages, dodging complex patterns of enemy bullets while destroying the bosses at the end of each level. You must manage your green gems, which power your Awakening mode, and your Guard Barrier energy to protect yourself when cornered.
- Arrow Keys: Move
- Z: Fire (tap for wide shot, hold for focused shot and slower movement)
- X: Activate/Deactivate Awakening (Kakusei) mode
- C: Guard Barrier (Bomb)
- Shift: Insert Coin
- Enter: Start
Tips
- Collect green gems by defeating enemies in normal mode. When the screen is flooded with bullets, activate Awakening mode (X). Destroying an enemy in this mode converts all their on-screen bullets into gold ingots, completely clearing them from your path.
- Always deactivate Awakening before your green gem counter drops to zero. If you stay in Awakening mode without gems, you will enter “Overmode”, which turns enemy bullets red and makes them significantly faster and more dangerous.
- Use your Guard Barrier (C) defensively. Tapping it deploys a brief shield, while holding it unleashes a powerful attack. If you are hit while you have barrier energy, it will automatically trigger a micro-barrier, saving your life at the cost of your energy gauge.
