Developed by Treasure and released in 1994, Dynamite Headdy is a remarkably inventive 2D platformer for the Sega Genesis. You star as Headdy, a puppet who must use his detachable head to battle the forces of King Dark Demon and save the toy residents of North Town.
How to play
The goal is to navigate through theatrical stages by using Headdy’s head to attack enemies and interact with the environment. As a Sega Genesis title, the default browser controls use the Arrow Keys for movement. Use Z, X, and C (mapping to the A, B, and C buttons) to jump and throw your head, and press Enter to start.
Tips
- Look out for the Headcase power-ups; these grant temporary new heads with unique abilities, such as the Vacuum Head to pull in objects or the Spike Head to climb walls.
- You can use Headdy’s default head to grab onto the small, round hooks scattered throughout the levels, allowing you to pull yourself up to higher platforms or swing across gaps.
- Pay attention to the background scenery; since the game is framed as a stage play, you can sometimes find secrets or spot incoming hazards behind the props.
