Dynamite Headdy is a creative 1995 2D platformer released for the Sega Master System exclusively in Brazil by Tec Toy. Developed by Treasure, the game casts you as Headdy, the star of a theatrical puppet show who must save North Town from the evil King Dark Demon. The world is famously themed around a stage production, complete with falling backdrops and visible stagehands.
How to play
Instead of simply jumping on enemies, your main ability is throwing your own head. You can toss your head in eight directions to attack foes, grab onto orange hooks to pull yourself to higher platforms, and interact with the environment. Along the way, you can pick up temporary head power-ups that grant special abilities, such as the Hammer Head for heavier damage or the Vacuum Head to pull in items. Use the arrow keys to move, Z to jump, and X to throw your head.
Tips
- Pay attention to the background scenery. Since the game is a stage play, elements of the set can fall over or behave unexpectedly, serving as both hazards and platforms.
- Experiment with new heads when you find them. Some boss fights or platforming sections are much easier with a specific head ability.
