Developed by Capcom in 1993, Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom is an arcade beat ’em up that successfully blends classic side-scrolling brawler action with tabletop RPG mechanics. Set in the Mystara campaign setting, players choose from four distinct classesโFighter, Elf, Cleric, or Dwarfโeach with unique melee abilities, spells, and playstyles. Unlike standard arcade games of its era, it features branching story paths, an inventory system for sub-weapons, and intense boss fights against iconic monsters.
How to Play
Your objective is to travel across the Republic of Darokin to defeat the Archlich Deimos. For this arcade emulation, insert a coin (usually the 5 key) and press Start (1 key). Use the Arrow keys to move, and the main action keys (often Z, X, C or Ctrl, Alt, Space) to attack, jump, and select items. You can block incoming strikes by holding the attack button while moving away from the enemy.
Tips
- Use your sub-weapons: Don’t hoard burning oils and throwing hammers; use them generously to interrupt difficult enemy attacks or damage bosses from a safe distance.
- Master the block: Blocking (Attack + Back) is essential, especially against charging enemies. The Fighter and Cleric blocks are particularly strong.
- Crouch for loot: You must crouch to pick up gold and items dropped on the ground. Be careful when looting during active combat, as crouching leaves you vulnerable.
